Veneers

Veneers concentrate on improving the appearance of a person’s smile all in one go.  Our veneers and other cosmetic choices can help you smile with confidence again.

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells bonded directly to your teeth, covering up problems like discoloration, chipped, or crooked teeth. They help you achieve the smile you are looking for by improving the all-around aesthetics of the teeth, from whitening, to straightening, and even shape.

Am I a candidate for veneers?

While everyone’s smile can benefit from veneers, not everyone is a good candidate. You may not be suitable for veneers if you:

  • Grind your teeth

  • Have significant gum disease

  • Have weak or decayed teeth

  • Have a severe overbite or underbite

If the above applies to you, then our dentist may recommend dental crowns as an alternative option.

How do dentists place veneers?

You’ll need two appointments to get your veneers in place. At your first appointment, our dentist will remove a thin layer of enamel from the front of your teeth so your veneer fits snugly. This is safe and does not compromise the strength of the teeth. A dental technician will take molds of your teeth to ensure your custom-made veneers will fit, and you’ll be able to choose the shade and shape to match.

At the next appointment, our dentist will bond your custom veneers to your teeth. Your teeth should feel comfortable and your smile will instantly improve.

How do I take care of my veneers?

You need to care for your veneers just as you would your normal teeth. You should:

  • Brush twice a day

  • Floss regularly

  • Visit your dentist every six months for regular cleanings

  • Quit smoking

  • Avoid foods that can stain teeth, like red wine or coffee

Veneers also require you to be more mindful of chewing. Too much pressure can cause the veneers to crack. If your veneers do crack or come off, they can be replaced one at a time. Contact the Reliant Dental Group in West Roxbury to get yours.
